1. Scope
1.1 These test methods describe procedures for measuring ballistic-resistance and other properties for high-strength materials used in ballistic-resistant applications. 1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
Stakeholders, such as Producers (fiber manufacturers, textile manufacturers/weavers), Users (body armor manufacturers), and Consumers (body armor users) would benefit because: a) Materials used in armor systems can be better specified; b) The consistency of protective system performance can be improved; and c) End product performance risk can be managed more effectively.
