1. Scope
This test method covers a beaker-type procedure for evaluating the effects of extended service engine coolants on metal specimens under controlled accelerated aging laboratory conditions.
Automotive manufacturers have responded to consumer demand for lower-maintenance vehicles by developing and adopting extended service engine coolants. There is a need to develop test methods that differentiate standard service capability from extended service capability in engine coolant formulations. This method, adapted from Asian OEM and JIS standards, offers a possible advancement to the glassware corrosion methodology that may be useful in achieving that objective.
Keywords
