Work Item: ASTM WK25876 - New Practice for Establishing the Continuous Reduction of Bacterial Contamination on Solid, Non-Food, Contact Surfaces

Developed by Subcommittee: E35.15 | Committee E35 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Scope

1.1 This laboratory practice describes a procedure to determine the efficacy of solid, non-food, contact surfaces in reducing bacterial contamination and buildup, on a continuing, ongoing persistent basis, following repeated exposures to the test organism over a 24-h period. 1.2 It is the responsibility of the investigator to determine whether good laboratory practices (GLPs) are required and to follow them when appropriate. 1.3 This practice may involve hazardous materials, chemicals, and microorganisms and should be performed only by persons who have had formal microbiological training. This standard does not purport to address all safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. 1.4 Unit--The units stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in nonconformance with this standard. The standard is needed for testing of copper alloy materials that are inherently antimicrobial for their ability to kill/inhibit contaminative bacteria, fungi, and/or viruses.

Keywords
