1. Rationale

D 16 voted to ballot D841 to add a limitation on dioxane of 20 mg/kg. Benzene producers who rely upon glycols for extraction of aromatics may produce dioxane which can appear in the benzene products. Dioxane can cause a problem to certain users that are sensitive to the oxygenates presence in the benzene. This material is 1,4 dioxane and is unrelated to dioxin. Dioxane may be measured by D4492.
