1. Rationale
This guide was originally approved in 1993 and it has been updated a number of times, but at this reapproval review, we determined that eleven of the test methods listed have been discontinued. Kate McClung did a search of all ASTM standards with friction in the title. I reviewed them and decided if they were appropriate for inclusion. This ballot shows the 18 tests that were deemed suitable for inclusion. Thus, the revised G115 contains 33 test methods that reflect current ASTM friction tests. The remainder of the document is unchanged except for a clarifying word or two. The hand-drawn sketches will be replaced by professional drawings by ASTM after approval. ASTM will also insert the proper volume references for the new additions.
