    1. Scope

    1.1 This guide describes standard methods / metrics used in the evaluation of process capability / control of metal laser sintering systems. 1.2 This guide provides common measures of process variables across various additive metals machines which are used in the production of parts from powder materials using one or more lasers to fuse particles at the surface of a powder bed, layer by layer. 1.3 This guide does not address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

    This standard is needed to provide guidance to customers, suppliers and users of metals laser sintering systems to ensure that common methods are used in the evaluation of machine health, capability, repeatability, calibration and process control.
