1. Scope
1.1 This practice describes recommended procedures for accelerated life testing of flat plate and flexible photovoltaic (PV) modules and analysis of those results to estimate their relative functional service life under in-use conditions. 1.2 This practice applies to PV modules for residential, commercial and utility solar power generation. 1.3 This practice describes procedures for accelerating the failure mechanisms of PV modules caused by mechanical, electric, and environmental stresses.
Current standards are based on initial qualification (fitness for use) testing. There is now a growing need to have information on the expected life of these systmes in order for users to compare technologies and assess long-term economics.
