1. Rationale
As part of an ASTM D02 terminology clean-up initiative, a request by CS95 (Terminology) was sent out to all Subcommittees to determine if methods that use or share the same terminology but have definitions that are not exactly the same, to consider aligning such terms into a single definition. With respect to ASTM color, alternate definitions appear in D6045 and D6756. At the June 2009 ASTM SC5.C meeting, a proposal was made to retain the definition in D6045 and ballot a change to D6756 to change the definition to align with the definition in D6045. The rationale for this proposal was that the information in D6045 provides more details, especially with respect to how the ASTM color scale compares to the Saybolt color scale that is not found in the definition in D6756. As such, this ballot item is intended to update the ASTM color definition in D6756 to align with the ASTM color definition in D6045 to address the CS95 request.
