Work Item: ASTM WK25296 - New Specification for Electron Beam Melting (EBM) Titanium 6Al-4V

Developed by Subcommittee: F42.05 | Committee F42 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Scope

This specification covers Titanium 6Al-4V products fabricated by EBM. The parts as deposited from this process are used typically for machining preforms in applications that require mechanical properties similar to wrought mill and recrystallized annealed products, but end use parts can be fabricated directly from the EBM process. Several large companies have internal specs for EBM of Ti6-4 parts. Standardization is necessary to grow the supplier base. The users will be primarily aerospace industry companies, though this will benefit general industry. A medical (FDA) version could be modified from this standard as well. The task group responsible for this work item decided to create a new document with EBM and laser sintering rolled into one spec that covers powder bed processes.
