Work Item: ASTM WK24538 - New Test Method for Speciated Organic Volatile Content of Multi-Component Coatings by Gas Chromatography

Developed by Subcommittee: D01.21 | Committee D01 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Scope

1.1 This test method is for the determination of the individual organic volatile compounds of waterborne multi-component coatings using gas chromatography (see NOTE 1). 1.2 This test method has also been used successfully to determine the speciated volatile organic content (VOC) of solvent-borne multi-component coatings. Work is continuing to develop this aspect of the test method and will be added to the test method at a later date. NOTE 1--Currently, there are no test methods for the direct analysis of the VOC content of waterborne multi-component coatings. The VOC content of solvent-borne multicomponent coatings is determined directly by a simple weight loss determination of the mixed components (Test Method D2369). 1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. No direct methods for determining the VOC content of multi-component coatings are available.
