1. Rationale
The F15.18 Subcommittee on Full-Size Cribs has been investigating incidents as provided by the CPSC related to drop sides on full-size cribs. Many of the incidents showed hardware failure related to miss-assembly and re-assembly of the crib. After many proposals and drop side testing, it has been proposed that the ASTM subcommittee charged with addressing crib issues consider revisions to the standard that would eliminate such functional drop sides, thereby reducing the need for hardware assemblies altogether. This proposal will modify ASTM Standard F1169 to address the issues related to the miss-assembly of drop sides, missing components, and other issues that may result in failures related to the drop side on cribs.
