1. Rationale
The F15.18 Subcommittee on Full-Size Cribs has been investigating incidents as provided by the CPSC in which crib slats appeared to break or disengage. When this occurs, children are at risk of becoming entrapped between the remaining slats or falling out of the crib. The current voluntary standard does not adequately address these risks of injury and death. As such, the following proposal has been put forth requiring that crib assemblies pass an additional performance standard to assure the structural integrity of crib slats.
