Work Item: ASTM WK24508 - New Test Method for Knitted Fabric Count

Developed by Subcommittee: D13.60 | Committee D13 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Scope

This test method covers the measurement of knitted fabric count and is applicable to all types of weft and warp knitted fabric types. D13 has an individual standard (D3885) for counting warp and filling count of woven fabrics but a technique for measuring course and wale counts of knitted fabrics is currently incorporated in ASTM D3887 Std Specification for Tolerances for Knitted Fabrics. Some photographic aids for counting knitted fabrics was published in the 2004 AATCC -ASTM Technical Supplement TS-002 and the Retail Task Groups purpose was to move unofficial techniques into either AATCC or ASTM standards. Some knitted fabrics are not easy to count and it is believed that a stand-alone method with visual aids will help the technical industry to train new people in laboratories.
