1. Scope
This test method evaluates the resistance to surface fuzzing of loop pile floor covering caused by broken fiber filaments or damage to fiber tufts, by use of a hook tape roller attachment capable of back and forth horizontal movement across the surface of the pile yarn floor covering.
This procedure is currently being used by the major carpet manufacturers in house as a quality control tool. Carpet testing laboratories also have been using this technique for many years to evaluate surface fuzzing of carpet. Requests have been made to the D13.21 subcommittee to develope a standard procedure for the evaluation of this specific characteristic of carpet.
