1. Scope
This method provides three procedures for determining the moisture content of hot-mix asphalt. Two of these methods,convection oven and vacuum drying device, may be used for bituminous mixtures containing any type of aggregate material including slag aggregate or metal and microwave oven, which is not to be used for bituminous mixtures which contain slag aggregate or metal.
Moisture in asphalt mixtures can negatively affect the quality of the mixture and could result in pre-mature failure of the pavement. The results from this test can be used during quality assurance and control at asphalt plants.
