1. Scope
Qualitative standard test method for determining the boron content of hydraulically applied fiber mulches
Boron is an essential plant nutrient but only in very small quantities, less than 1 ppm, in qty higher than 2 ppm, plant toxicity can take place. Fiber mulches containing toxic levels of Boron would put plants at risk to high rates of mortality. Some manufacturers of cellulosic fiber mulches utilize borates to fire retard cellulose insulation, there is a potential for crossover contamination between finish products. Specifiers and regulatory agencies would require a maximum qty of Boron. Manufacturers can utilize the standard for quality assurance.
