    1. Scope

    1.1 This qualitative test method covers determining fiber length percentages of hydraulically applied erosion control products (HECPs). 1.2 The values stated are in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are for informational purposes only. 1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

    HECPs are engineered and processed to specific length and width dimensions that facilitate the hydraulic application preventing clogging of the pump, recirculation pipes, nozzles, and tips. When the correct percentages of fiber lengths exist within the HECP for hydraulic planting, a properly layered, interlocking mulch will be on the soils to hold seed, moisture, and reduce erosion. The data generated by this test method are required by some departments of transportation for fiber matrice products and will be quickly adopted by regulatory agencies seeking consistency in fiber mulch supplies. It is a quality control measure used by the HECP industry that insures that the correct percentage of various fiber lengths are being produced.
