1. Scope
1.1 This standard establishes minimum environmental, social, and economic performance and reporting requirements for a building promoting sustainability. 1.1.1 The requirements specified in this standard are consistent with the principles described in E 2432. 1.1.2 Objectives guiding development of this standard are (1) to synthesize good commercial and customary practice, and (2) to identify requirements appropriate to the size, scale, and means of the building project. 1.1.3 This standard is intended to provide an efficient and effective tool that can assist individuals, enterprises and governmental entities in achieving their sustainability objectives. 1.2 This standard is primarily applicable to buildings located within North America, but it may also be useful to buildings in other regions where the principles described in E 2432 are established as a goal. 1.3 This standard is applicable to new buildings, existing buildings, renovations and alterations to existing buildings, and to new systems and equipment to existing buildings. 1.4 This standard is applicable to residential, commercial, institutional, and governmental buildings. 1.5 This standard assumes the building assessed according to this standard is in compliance with all applicable regulations. This standard is not to be used to circumvent any safety, health or environmental requirement of the authority having jurisdiction.
