1. Rationale
During the October 2008 meeting of F15.18 Subcommittee, a task group was established to evaluate the adequacy of the suffocation warning on cribs. The task group evaluated incident data, and recommendations from various stakeholders including infant bedding manufacturers, an independent consultant, and task group members. It was agreed the proposal better described the nature of the hazard (padding under an infant) and require the instructions to carry more information to better educate caregivers regarding safe sleep invironments for infants. 5-09 The label language and location items are being reballoted. The instructional literature sections previously balloted will be sent back out to ballot separately.
