(What is a Work Item? / How to Input to a Work Item)

Work Item: ASTM WK21989 - Revision of F1881-05 Standard Test Method for Measuring Baseball Bat Performance Factor

Active Standard: F1881-09

Developed by Subcommittee: F08.26 | Committee F08 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Rationale

1. Make consistent temperature and humidity requirements for all methods involving a baseball or softball. 2. Relax temperature tolerance to +/-4F (a range achievable by current test labs). 3. Tighten test lab humidity tolerance to 40-60% RH (baseball COR is sensitive to test lab humidity) 4. Combine test lab and ball conditioning into one requirement (since they are now the same). 5. Increase ball conditioning to 14 days (required to reach moisture equilibrium) 6. Include hourly lab temperature and humidity values, measured within 0.5F and 2% RH over conditioning and test duration, with test results.
