1. Rationale

ASTM 2517 is a child resistant standard intended to prevent children from gaining access to the contents of portable fuel containers. The testing protocols within ASTM 2517 were designed for openings far different that the dispensing systems that are required for portable fuel containers. In addition, the current standard contains several areas that are vague and need clarification.
