1. Scope
1.1 This test method evaluates structural thermal barriers used in aluminum framing of windows, doors, and skylights. 1.2 This test method is applicable to all aluminum fenestration products that are constructed with structural thermal barriers. 1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. 1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
This standard is needed to promote a uniform test method for all the users in the supply chain to compare the structual performance of thermally broken fenestration members. The users in the supply chain include suppliers to the fenestration industry; the manufacturers of windows, doors, or skylights; the installers of the products; the general contractor for a building; the architect or engineer designing the building; anyone who inspects the building; and code officials that promote uniform building codes.
