1. Rationale
Inclusion of rolling thin film oven test as an optional aging test in the specified products in table 1 and 2, added of maximal mass change after RTFOT aging requirement will ensure better quality of asphalt binders in terms of volatility and oxidation resistance. The purchaser has option to specify aging according to rolling thin-film RTFOT or thin film oven test - TFOT. Studies done with AASHTO data bank showed that the mass loss by RTFOT is approximately 30% greater than for TFOT.
