1. Scope
This proposed draft Standard covers requirements for tin coated annealded copper wire intended for electrical and electronic application where solderability is a requirement. The draft standard defines the quality testing and inspection requirements.
Tin plated copper conductors are being used in industry where solderability is a requirement. ASTM B33 is a common reference for tin copper bare conductor, but isnt technically appropriate for a high performance tin coated annealed copper wire for solderability applications. The proposed standard would address the bare conductor requirements (free tin), quality test, and inspection criteria for the solderability testing. Users would be suppliers to SAE AS22759 (Aerospace standard) or IPC/EIA/JEDEC J-STD-002 (Solderability test for component leads, terminations, lugs, terminals and wire). Quality control organizations within this industry.
