Work Item: ASTM WK20129 - New Test Method for Evaluating the Reactivity of Limestone for Use in Wet Flue Gas Desulfuization Applications

Developed by Subcommittee: C07.05 | Committee C07 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Scope

The test method is used for evaluating limestone sources for use in wet Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) applications by reactivity with Sulfuric acid. A test is needed to compare the relative reactivity of limestone materials for use in wet flue gas scrubbing systems designed to remove sulfur dioxide from the flue gas. The tests currently used are often proprietary and customized to one type of flue gas system. These tests often use expensive equipment; are time consuming and rely on comparison to unavailable reference materials. Specific items for the work group to resolve are sample particle size, acid type and strength, pH, temperature, reference limestone and test measurement type and result.

Keywords

Relative reactivity, residual carbonate, 45 particle size, pH, FGD
