Work Item: ASTM WK19465 - New Practice for Using a Test Chamber for Humidity Conditioning of Test Panels

Developed by Subcommittee: D01.44 | Committee D01 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Scope

1.1 Specification D 3924 defines a standard environment of 23 2C and 50 5 % relative humidity (RH) and free from drafts for normal conditioning and testing of paint, varnish, lacquer, and related materials. This practice describes a test chamber that allows for control of RH above the ambient RH and minimization of air flow for conditioning of test panels at elevated RH and room temperatures. 1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard. 1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. Some laboratories do not have access to standard environment rooms to condition panels. This practice describes a test chamber to control relative humidity and air flow to conditioning of paints. Traffic-paint-specifying agencies are currently using this test chamber for dry speed testing and specification of fast-dry traffic paints.
