1. Rationale
Difficulties have been experimented when applying D7219-05 to an industrial scale production due to various shortcomings that limits its usefulness, as for example: - The distinction between the number of billets to be sampled per lot (6.1, 7.1) and billet sampling frequencies (11.1 to 11.4) needs to be clarified. - The mandated properties (Tables 6 to 11) are not in line with industry production control and are mostly inappropriate in respect of material performance and design requirements. - The relationship between properties to be measured (Tables 6 to 11), sampling requirements, and the acceptance or rejection of graphite lots is not defined.
