Work Item: ASTM WK17912 - New Practice for Automatic Particle Counting below 4 microns in Lubricating and Hydraulic Fluids

Developed by Subcommittee: D02.96 | Committee D02 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Scope

Counting and Sizing of particles in Lubricating and Hydraulic Fluids with a diameter less than 4 microns in diameter. Particles and contaminants in liquids can be detected and counted directly by numerous technologies which evaluate a sample of the liquid when the particle size is greater than 4 um diameter. Quantatative evaluation of particulate smaller than 4 microns has been relegated to Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) Patch Methods (Various) or use of a Centrifuge. all of these methods have individual short comings which the proposed method may overcome.
