1. Scope

This test method covers the determination of particle concentration, particle size distribution, particle shape and soot content in new and in-service oils used for lubrication and hydraulic systems by a direct imaging integrated tester. Approximately 250 of these instruments are in use worldwide, at least 50 of which are in North America. The standard will provide consistent method with precision.
