Work Item: ASTM WK17122 - New Test Method for Test Method for Carbon Monoxide on Supported Platinum on Alumina Catalysts using Manometric Method

Developed by Subcommittee: D32.01 | Committee D32 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Scope

Carbon monoxide chmisorption on noble metals catalyst is a valuable technique for determining active surface area. The proposed technique provides a basis for the preparation and determination of the percent dispersion or more simply put it is an estimate of the ratio of catalytically active surface atoms to bulk atoms for a supported metal catalyst. No standard exists in this area. Characterization of active metal surface area is widely used in the petroleum and chemical industries. It is also a valuable tool for evaluating new materials used in fuel cells.
