1. Scope
1.1 The dry-through time procedure in Test Method D 1640 for materials with dry film thicknesses in the range of 12.5 to 45 m specifies to bear down on the film with the thumb, exerting the maximum pressure of the arm, at the same time turning the thumb through an angle of 90. This practice modifies this procedure for testing the dry-through time of traffic paints with dry film thicknesses in the range of 200 to 460 m, to rest the thumb on the film without pushing down and then rotating the thumb 90 with just enough pressure to maintain contact with the film. This practice recommends testing dry-through of traffic paints in a condition that is free from direct drafts and controlled at 23 2C and 50 5% relative humidity. 1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard. 1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
To test for dry through at 50 and 90 % RH.
