1. Scope
These test methods establish procedures for conducting rotational capacity tests on bolt, nut and washer assemblies, intended to be used as tested and certified sets. These test methods establish the suitibility and capability of individual components, meeting the requirements of each individual product standard to work together. Property requirements of components and the applicable tests for their determination are specified in the individual product standards.
This test requirement is currently in the A325 standard, but is often needed for other grades of fasteners, such as A449 and A490. It has been a standard practice within ASTM to move testing requirements out of the body of the individual standards, and into related test method standards. Other agencies also specify RC testing of ASTM products, but amend the RC test procedure to meet more rigid requirements. This standard test method would make available multiple test parameters which can be specified by the end user, without adding clutter to each individual product standard. Hopefully this standard will be adopted by other agencies, such as AASHTO.
