1. Scope
Both new and used thermocouples should be evaluated to assure they are in a condition appropriate for calibration. Essentially to verify they are working as intended. This standard covers a number of tests that may be applied to new and previously used thermocouples that can be used to asses specific material properties. The standard covers the verification of thermocouples insitu and for laboratory testing.
Many regulatory agencies such as the FDA require process validation. This process would include the verification of temperature measurement devices such as thermocouple sensors; therefore a standard is clearly required to define the technical requirement of verifying the sensor.
