1. Scope
This document provides the steps and procedures for an operator of Mini-UAS to use ASTM Standards Fxxx, Fyyy, and Fzzz to produce the required documentation for approval to fly in the NAS.
- To support program letters for COA applications to fly.
- To support an industry application.
- To meet the application and safety requirements of an industry association.
- To provide guidance on Letters to the FAA for authorization to operate in the NAS as required.
- To outline information required by insurance underwriters to adequately evaluate the risks and potential liability of UAS flight operations, in order to provide sufficient information against which underwriters can offer affordable insurance policies to UAS operators (most insurance companies have no means to evaluate insurance risks for UAS operations).
This guide will assist the user to identify the specific requirements for airworthiness, operations, and pilot qualifications relevent to Mini-UAS, RC, Visual Range operations.
In lieu of comprehensive reg guidance, this handbook will assist operators to approach the FAA with supporting documentation.
