1. Rationale
The changes to the Labeling and Instructional Literature sections include: Change lettering size to standard used for other ASTM standards on juvenile products. Changed on product warnings to require certain warnings be visible when the product is in the manufacturers recommended use position. Added suffocation warning, strings warnings, SIDS warning, loose fastener warning, mattress adjustment warning, and crib side warning. In section 8.3.1.4 revised wording to clarify inspection instructions. Revisions were made to the water mattress warning, teething rail warning and the finishing warning. Revise section on instructions to avoid restating warnings on the product. Section 9 now references section 8 to eliminate redundancy. A significant issue with this change was brought to the attention of the subcommittee. The intent of the addition of Section 8.2 to the standard was to make the warning in Section 8.2.1 visible to the casual caregiver using the crib. With the wording that was approved in the 07 version of the standard, it was unclear to manufacturers and test labs where this label could be placed to pass the standard.
