(What is a Work Item?)

Work Item: ASTM WK11122 - New Standard Test Method for Ignition Sensitivity of Nonmetallic Materials and Components Containing Nonmetallic Materials to Rapid Gaseous Fluid Compression

Developed by Subcommittee: G04.01 | Committee G04 Home | Contact Staff Manager

Description Related Products
1. Scope

1.1 This test method pertains to rapid compression of gaseous oxidizers against nonmetallic materials or components containing nonmetallic materials.
1.2 This test method is intended to produce near-adiabatic compression of gaseous oxidizers against these materials or components to evaluate their ignition sensitivity to this event.
1.3 This test method is primarily intended to provide for standardization of the test systems used to conduct rapid compression testing and the procedural and statistical considerations that are important to the test results. This test method is intended for use by other standardization organizations such as CGA and ISO and government organizations such as the U.S. Navy and NASA. The test methodology is currently used with very wide subscription within the oxygen industry throughout the world but no compelte methodology exists to standardize the test system configurations or provide round-robin verification of laboratories and statistical considerations.
