    New Determination of Methanol in Propane by Gas Chromatography and Flame Ionization Detection

    1. Scope

    This test method covers the gas chromatographic procedure for the quantitative determination of methanol in propane by multidimensional gas chromatography and flame ionization detection. This method is applicable when the hydrocarbon matrices have a final boiling point less than 200 degrees Celsius. Oxygenates which may be analyzed include, but are not limited to, those listed in Table 1. The linear working range for methanol is 1 mg/kg to 500 mg/kg mass. Methanol in Propane is the goal of this standard.

    This standard is needed for quality control and custody transfer of Propane in the LPG industry.
