Following reports of the use of a modified lid and cup mechanism by one D93 apparatusmanufacturer, a request was made to use ASTM Crosscheck data to statistically assesswhether this caused any significant differences to results.Crosscheck data was collected from tests predominately using ProcedureB and the modified locking mechanism, covering flash points from 70 to 210 °CMultiple sample comparisons were made on the data by a CS94 statistician usingscatter plots, and box and whisker plots.A revision was sought to modify the D93 method to allow modified lid and cup lockingmechanisms. However it was thought that allowing generic changes could affect the integrity of the method and that a specific research would be a better vehicle to describe the evaluated changes.
