Abstract

This specification covers the requirements for establishing a system ensuring continued airworthiness of lighter-than-air light sport aircrafts. Such a system shall require both manufacturer and aircraft owners and operators to maintain communication and proper documentation of matters relating to safety, operations, and maintenance of aircraft produced and placed in service. The manufacturer shall keep a record of all registered aircraft owners (including all the aircrafts in service by serial number, registration number, and name and address of the owner), document all reported service difficulty (such as failures, malfunctions, or defects in the aircraft), promptly investigate such reports, and provide the appropriate corrective action. The manufacturer shall make available to aircraft owners and operators all documentation relating to compliance with standards, service difficulty, and corrective actions taken to address such cases (including design and service procedure changes) in the form of safety directives, service bulletins, and service letters. In addition, the Aircraft Operating Instructions shall bear the location and contact details for accessing such documents.

Scope

1.1 This specification covers continued airworthiness requirements for the manufacture of lighter-than-air light sport aircraft and their qualification for possible certification.

1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only.

1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
