Committee F36 meets once a year in January in conjunction with the annual UCT Conference, with 50 members attending one day of technical meetings. The Committee, with a membership of approximately 230, currently has jurisdiction of over 9 standards, published in the Annual Book of ASTM Standards, Volume 04.12. F36 has 5 technical subcommittees that maintain jurisdiction over these standards. Information on this subcommittee structure and F36's portfolio of approved standards and Work Items under construction are available from the List of Subcommittees, Standards and Work Items below. This Committee addresses various issues associated with underground utilities in terms of use, maintenance and design. Focused primarily on water, sewer and natural gas systems, this they are working in three primary areas. First, is the utilization of sewers as a housing for fiber optic cable, which is frequently installed by robots. Second, the Committee has a focus on the maintenance and rehabilitation of these systems using robotics technology and chemical grouts, inclusive of guides for application. Finally, there is a focus on the methods for the development of damage algorithms for water conveyance systems in order to quantify the potential for component damage as a function of various levels of seismic hazards. Writing these standards is a membership consisting of stakeholders from telecommunication companies, underground utility owners, regulators (municipal engineers), fiber optic cable manufacturers, the civil engineering community, chemical grout producers, robotics manufacturers, pipe manufacturers, designers of civil software applications, utilities contractors, and fiber optic deployment technology companies.
