About the Program

The ASTM Vapor Encroachment Condition Screening Personnel Certificate Program is offered to those individuals who attend the Screening for Vapor Encroachment onto Property Involved in Real Estate Transactions Training Course and have been verified to have successfully passed the examination. Individuals who pass the examination shall receive a signed certificate from ASTM and be listed in the Directory of Certificate Holders. The purpose of the program is to assist environmental professionals conducting due diligence to facilitate screening a property for a possible vapor encroachment condition (VEC). Vapor encroachment into the subsurface of a property involved in a real estate transaction can potentially create significant issues for the deal. The methodology for conducting the screening is contained in ASTM E2600-10 Standard Guide for Vapor Encroachment Screening on Property Involved in Real Estate Transactions. The benefits of receiving a certificate include:

 

  • Providing customers a basis for evaluating qualifications of personnel providing screening for vapor encroachment.
  • Helping employers judge the skills of existing or potential employees.
  • Allowing certificate holders to differentiate themselves from others in their profession and advance their careers.
  • Listing in the ASTM Directory of Certificate Holders.

 

Each attendee will have the option of taking an examination to receive an ASTM Vapor Encroachment Condition Screening Personnel Certificate. The examination will be comprised of 50 multiple choice questions. Each student who receives a score of 80% or better will receive a certificate.


Approval Process for the Personnel Certificate Program

An applicant for the certificate program shall do the following:

  1. Review the program requirements outlined in the Scheme Manual For Vapor Encroachment Condition Screening Personnel Certificate Program
  2. Register for the Screening for Vapor Encroachment onto Property Involved in Real Estate Transactions Training Course and pay the $595 fee.
  3. Register for the Vapor Encroachment Condition Screening Personnel Certificate Program and pay the $95 fee.
  4. Attend the Screening for Vapor Encroachment onto Property Involved in Real Estate Transactions Training Course and pass the personnel certificate examination.


Fees

The fee to take the Personnel Certificate examination is $95. It must be taken in conjunction with the Screening for Vapor Encroachment onto Property Involved in Real Estate Transactions Training Course ($595 fee).
